Return to San Diego Wednesday, April 4, 2007 Happy Birthday, Austin Donna got up at 5 this morning to drive over to where she had a better cell signal. We wanted to call Austin and wish him Happy Birthday before he got off to school. She set the alarm but I didn't hear it, and she didn't wake me, so she told him happy birthday from Kpoppa and Nonna. She didn't think he was too interested, since he was eating his cereal. We will be spending most of today getting unpacked, and I will get the website updated and add more pictures as quickly as I can. Keep checking back for more pictures, and I will add pictures to the PhotoSite as time and bandwidth permits. Uploading take a lot of bandwidth on the internet, and my satellite connection is limited. We have been working most of the day getting the web site updated, getting things unpacked, doing laundry, and restocking the pantry and fridge. We had Hot Dogs for lunch about 3pm, after just a snack for breakfast. Thursday, April 5, 2007 I spent a good deal of time yesterday afternoon and last night working on the web site and pictures as well as working on a route home with sight-seeing on the way. This morning we decided to take a little roundabout tour up in the mountains to the Northeast of San Diego. We went through several little towns, the most interesting San Isabel, where we found the Julian Pie Company. This place was quite an operation, with about 8 people working on a line putting together a traditional apple pie. They had lots of other flavors, but apple seemed to be their specialty. I watched the assembly for a bit. They were adding apple to the pan with the bottom crust in the pan, and weighing it out at 3.70 pounds. I figured that was 3.50 pounds of apples in a 9 inch pie. Thats a whooping amount of apples!! Continuing our circuitous route back to Santee, we stopped at Harrah's Ricson Casino, on the Ricson Tribe Reservation. Donna won a little and I lost a little, so not too bad. Back to the coach now, and probably will have pizza for dinner tonight, and then work on the pictures and route home some more. Friday, April 6, 2007 We were up about normal time (for us), and got dressed to make a trip up the coast to Oceanside, the home of one of Donna's clients, Robert Green. Donna had talked with him yesterday, and we had an appointment to arrive at his home about 10:30. We arrived right on time to meet Robert for the first time, his lovely wife Jin, and lovely sister Shirley. Robert and Jin have a beautiful home in a great sub-division, with one of the most fantastic back yard I have ever seen. Home and Garden TV should visit this place! The rear yard has a huge hill across the back, with a waterfall and slide going into a beautiful pool. None of Robert and Jin's 3 kids were there, sorry we missed them. We got back to the coach about 1pm, had a bite of lunch, and decided we would leave San Diego and head on back to Texas, with a few side trips on the way. May not have been a real good decision, since we were traveling close to Los Angeles and San Bernadino. We did ok for a while, but then the traffic got really bad. We left at 2:30 and finally about 7pm arrived in Barstow, Ca at a Flying J where we filled up and had a hamburger. We left the Flying J about 8, and stopped at a rest area on I-40 about 30 minutes later. For the remainder of the trip home - Click Here
